It's the Year of the Rodent!

Happy Year of the Rat.

Does this mean that cats all over the world have to worry? No, it just means that it is time for the new Lunar year to begin.

I was taking the bus coming home and the girl sitting next to me was wishing people happy new year the whole time. I assume that it was different people, since she kept saying that she was on the bus, in both Cantonese and Mandarin. I love being multi-lingual.

I have to admit, I may have some doing in her wanting to call people up. When she first sat down next to me, I was knitting a scarf. I finished, then started sending out text messages to my friends and family members. I have an adversion to talking on the phone while on the bus, so texting is perfect for me.

I noticed that she was looking at my cell phone screen and READING. How rude of her! I guess my happy new year text messages prompted her to call people up. I'm also sure she felt talking out loud, because she spoke only in the different Chinese dialects, was safe. That nobody around her would understand.

I'm just glad she didn't talk about anything personal. I would have a hard time keeping a "straight" face. Sitting next to her, I was able to listen to everything she said.

This is also the first time I'm celebrating the Lunar New Year without my family. My dad passed away last year right before the Lunar New Year, so we didn't celebrate. It kinda sucked, but that's the way it goes. So the last time I've had to really celebrate, was two years ago. I kinda forgot what I had to do to prepare for the big shindig.

What I do remember to do, eat vegetarian (not hard, since I AM vegetarian), not wash on the first day (so I have to wash up really well before midnight tonight), don't handle things with sharp, cutting edges tomorrow (so everything has to be able to be eaten sans knife... i.e. no pizza for me), no foul language or talk of death, etc. (it's a think and say happy thoughts time for me), no arguing, no work of anykind.

Happy New Year everyone!!!

WELLcome to New Year,
Peace, Happiness and Fortune
To you from AiYahh!

AiYahh!!!
