How am I supposed to respond to that?

Well, yesterday went well.

My last day at work went very smoothly. Created a few accounts. Deleted a few accounts. Received an order from OfficeMax, saw it was missing some items (one only really), so I contacted them to get credit and have them ship out another one. Blah Blah blah.

I spent all night packing. Just when I thought that was it. I would find another thing that I had to bring up with me. I stopped counting all the times I had to open up and close that relocation box.

So here I am at home, waiting for a phone interview. That's the one thing I hate about SF. The cell reception can sometimes cut out completely for absolutely no reason and it just enough of a break so that your call ends.

I couldn't risk that happening to me, so I decided to stay at home today to wait for that phone call. In the meanwhile, I'm here blogging, chatting and watching porn.

Now if I could only get paid for this LOL

So since I have so much free time on my hands, I thought about a conversation I had with my mom as I was packing. We were just in the garage, me packing, her smoking, when she brings up my friend from the Ping's (Ping Yuen Housing Projects, where I grew up in Chinatown). She couldn't remember his name or what floor he lived on, but did mention that it was the guy that broke his back.

She was talking about my friend Simon. I remember Simon, because we were friends growing up. He was a year older than me, but was held back in school, so we were in the same class. I would often tutor him in school work. Simon was one of the "kwai jai" a bad boy, a gangster. I just thought he was kewl to hang out with, along with all our other friends.

My mom mentioned that Simon's mom had left and was no longer living there. I didn't ask if she knew where she moved to, this was sounding a lot like gossip, and I really didn't wanna hear about all the bad shit that's happening around there. My mom went on, that the sister was dealing drugs and turned the apartment into a brothel, that she was now a prostitute.

What am I supposed to say to something like that? "Good for her?" "Is she looking for clients?" What?

I also remembered the sister. Actually, I knew the whole family. When the dad passed away over 10 years ago, it hit me really hard and I was depressed for a while. I got over it slowly by moving on and giving support to the whole family. I studied for the S.A.T.'s with the youngest son. Heck, I considered that guy my best friend. So when my mom mentioned the sister, I remembered that I had seen her recently at work. She was with some ladies using the public computers here at the library. I said hi to them and she was surprised to see me.

I realized that she was "ashamed" or embarrassed for some reason. So I mentioned that I worked there and that if they needed to print out anything, they could do it on my computer so they didn't have to pay for it. We said our goodbyes and that was the last I'd seen or heard of her, till now.

So I really don't know what's happened to that family. If what my mom is telling me is true, that family's really screwed and not in a good way.

I'm not sure if I"m ready for this kind of conversation with my mom. Can't we go back to talking about what we're having for dinner and who won the most at mah jong last night?

Things and people change.
For the good sometimes and bad.
Just roll with it boy.

AiYahh!

It's those fu%ked-up, irreverent comments that continue to make you so much fun to read Howard. :)

Miss you and I hope that the move is a smooth, uneventful one for you and that success and happiness follows you all of your many, many days ahead!
